Key Training 1: Writing from the Heart

Through guided reflective journaling, you will explore your personal relationship with the heart—emotionally, energetically, and physiologically. Using the pancha maya kosha model as a foundation, these prompts will help you uncover how love, stress, resilience, and compassion live in your body and influence your breath, posture, and perception. These reflections are an essential part of understanding the mind-heart-body connection in therapeutic practice.

Key Training 2: Cardiovascular Function and Yoga Therapy

This section focuses on cardiovascular anatomy and the physiological effects of yoga therapy. You’ll review the heart’s structure and function, explore how the nervous system interacts with the cardiovascular system, and consider how specific yogic practices affect heart rate variability (HRV) and vagal tone—key indicators of resilience and autonomic balance.

Retreat Homework

  • Objective: This culminating project invites you to apply your knowledge of yoga therapy and heart disease to create a holistic, heart-centered care plan for a fictional client. You’ll assess the evolution of the condition through samprapti (pathogenesis), identify short- and long-term therapeutic priorities, and design a safe, chair-based yoga therapy session. You will also teach this session to your peers to practice therapeutic presence, cueing, and adaptability in a clinical yet compassionate environment. This worksheet will guide you through the development of your final project for the Yoga Therapy and Heart Disease course. Use this document to structure your plan and prepare for teaching a 20-minute chair-based session to your peers.
