Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy
This course explores the integration of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy as complementary healing systems rooted in the same philosophical foundation. Students will develop skills to assess imbalances through the Ayurvedic lens and design holistic yoga therapy protocols that support healing, rejuvenation, and disease prevention. Students will also understand their scope of practice and when to refer to Ayurvedic practitioners.

Understand
The terminology and foundational principles of Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, including prakriti, vikriti, doshas, dhatus, agni, ama, gunas, samprapti, and ojas/tejas/prana (1.1.1, 1.3.1.1–1.3.1.12)
The chikitsa (therapeutic) principles of Ayurveda and their application in yoga therapy sessions (1.3.1.5, 1.3.1.6)
How to conduct Ayurvedic assessments using observation, questioning, and palpation to develop working therapeutic relationships (1.3.1.4, 1.3.2.1, 5.1.1)
How to structure yoga therapy sessions to pacify doshas, nourish tissues, and support detoxification or rejuvenation based on Ayurvedic goals (1.3.1.7, 1.3.1.9, 3.1.2.4)
The role of dinacharya, seasonal rhythms, diet, self-care routines, and Ayurvedic remedies within yoga therapy (1.3.1.8, 1.3.1.10)
How to work within the scope of a yoga therapist and make appropriate referrals when needed (5.1.1, 5.1.4)
The art of therapeutic presence and using the senses as tools for deeper attunement and assessment (1.3.1.3, 1.3.1.11)

Ayurvedic and yogic perspectives on pacification (shamana), purification (shodhana), and strengthening (brimhana) strategies (1.3.1.5, 1.3.1.6)
The rationale for integrating Ayurvedic approaches into personalized yoga therapy planning (1.3.2.1)

The use of Yoga Nidra, constructive rest, and Ayurvedic relaxation techniques to support nervous system regulation and healing (3.1.2.4)
Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology from a yoga therapy perspective (1.3.1.12)
Define
Common Ayurvedic kriyas and pranayama practices used in therapeutic contexts, including their benefits and contraindications (1.3.1.12)
Required Textbooks:
- Textbook of Ayurveda, Vol. 1: Fundamental Principles by Vasant Lad (Read chapters 3,4, and 7)
Materials to Bring:
- Standard yoga props (2 blocks, 2 blankets (or 1 blanket and 1 bolster)
- Strap
Course Completion Requirements:
- View all asynchronous course material.
- Project Instructions:
1. Submit 2 chikitsa plans: 1 working with volunteer and 1 content class case study.
2. Each plan must include:
-Intake summary
-Vikriti analysis
-Goal setting + therapeutic rationale
-Ayurvedic recommendations (diet, lifestyle, yoga therapy practices)
3. Review at least 1 plan at huddles with mentor and cohort and provide feedback to others.
4. Upload Project form to folder along with initial intake
